About Us JJ’s Caffè is committed to superior food quality and cultivating a pleasurable and welcoming dining experience, akin to enjoying a home-cooked meal. We are truly excited to bring a fresh, new restaurant for breakfast and lunch to the City of Champions. From the warm welcome our guests will receive as they walk through our doors, through to the last bite of one of our savory dishes, we plan to take the dining experience you’d find in a critically acclaimed restaurant in Boston, and bring to the South Shore. Owner/Chef JJ Fernandes Chef JJ is a personable and seasoned chef of 30 years who has a remarkable passion for food and presentation. Born in Cape Verde, Chef JJ moved to America in 1981 and worked his first job as a dishwasher at the Sheraton Hotel in Boston. He quickly made his way up the ranks until finally taking the helm at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel as the Executive Chef in 1996. It was at the Park Plaza where Chef JJ had the pleasure of cooking for such dignitaries as Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush, Vice President Al Gore and a variety of other notable personalities. “It’s such an inspiring story,” says son, and General Manager, Nelson Fernandes, himself a veteran of the hotel business. “You always hear about the American Dream and for Chef and I to open up a restaurant in our hometown, I guess the American Dream came true for us. We’ve spent our entire hospitality careers in Boston and there is so much inspiration and resources to pull from that we just had to bring that same experience to Brockton.” The Atmosphere Our vision for JJ’s is to offer our guests a relaxing atmosphere as their senses take over: the exciting sight of Chef JJ preparing your meal, the sound of the steak sizzling on the grill while Frank Sinatra can be heard above you, the smell of fresh ground coffee and fresh local ingredients on your plate. JJ’s Caffè features a smaller menu designed to take advantage of using in-season menu items that can be switched out occasionally, thus ensuring only the best dishes make the cut. The design and décor of JJ’s will take on the same idea. Old photographs of historic Brockton and of Chef JJ’s motherland, Cape Verde, adorn the walls. Butcher block tables and wooden chairs finish off the design to complement the warm color scheme of the restaurant.
